Walking tour and City Hall

Today Carmen was gracious enough to show me around Hannover. The cool part was that not only did she show me new areas, but she showed me things I had missed in areas I'd already seen. Now I know of all the good restaurants, fun places to hang out, and most importantly, all the good beirgartens (Beer Gardens, thanks to Hooked on Phonics)! We visited the huge manmade lake, complete with carp and sailboats (the carp mainly stayed in the water, they're not big on sailing), City Hall, several plazas, pubs, restaurants, parks, and tons more. Plus I had this really good Banana Wheat Hefferveissen (sp?) beer. Don't knock it till you try it. It was damn good.

Us in front of the man-made lake. I'll spare you the close-up pictures of the carp that I took.

The coolest part of the day by far was when we went up into the tower in City hall. We went up a few flights of stairs, up an elevator, up an inclined elevator, then up 3 or 4 flights in a spiral staircase to reach the top. WELL worth it! The views were out of this world. Complete 360 degree view of Hannover, and because it was such a perfectly clear day, it seemed like we could see forever. The pictures below don't really do it justice, either. Once I get back to the states I'll stitch them all together and make a nice panoramic. For now though, enjoy:

View of City Hall, across from the little pond (not the man made lake). Nice reflection, eh? Thank you new polarizing lens.

View looking SE from the tower. Note the bit of the lake you can see on the right. I like all the red roofs!

View looking South. Notables: Lake from photo #1, pond from photo #2, and HUGE remodeled soccer stadium from the recent World Cup! Oh and the little dots in front of the people on the pond are remote controlled boats. Seemed to be a popular thing to do there.
